Where has the time gone?  How can it be November already?

Ready or not, we are here!

What are your plans for Thanksgiving Day?  Most people will gather with family and friends to share a big meal.  The meal is often followed by a nap because most everyone has either been cooking or hunting since early in the morning.  Some will even go shopping later in the day and into the night to get the great bargains for Christmas.

Family, a meal, a nap, hunting, shopping . . .   Where does the thanksgiving come in?

Thanksgiving was initially a harvest festival to celebrate a good harvest.  On what we call the “first Thanksgiving” the Pilgrims celebrated their first harvest in the new world.  This celebration lasted three days.  Thanksgiving Day has been an annual federal holiday since 1863 when President Abraham Lincoln set aside a national day of “Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens.”

I encourage you to make sure this Thanksgiving Day is about being thankful.  Thank God for all His provisions, for health, family, friends.  Be sure to include spiritual freedom through salvation provided by Jesus giving His life on the cross for us.  The freedom afforded us in the United States should also be on your list.

Happy Thanksgiving – the day and the action.  Be thankful so you can live your life to the fullest!
