The first day of Spring.  It feels wonderful to be sitting out on my porch writing.  I’m listening to the birds chirp, feeling the cool breeze and enjoying the bright sunshine.  Awesome!

It seems like it was just last week that there were freezing temperatures and even snow storms in some areas of the country.  Oh, it was just last week!

Life is the same way.  It is beautiful and sunny one day and the next day we are going through a storm.  All is going well one day and the next day there is trouble.

I experienced this unexpected weather change recently.  I woke up feeling great that Thursday morning.  I had a speaking engagement at a luncheon that day and a business meeting in the afternoon.  It was going to be a great day!  Then I received a phone call from my son saying he was sick and may need to go to the emergency clinic.  I called my sister to see if she could be available to help him if needed.  I would rather have been able to help him myself, but this was a packed day.  Now I was back on track.

I went into work for a couple hours and then headed to the luncheon.  Then it happened.  A car accident.  No one was hurt, but with waiting for the police and the tow truck, there was no way to make it to the luncheon.   Having to get a rental car and with my son ill and eventually in the emergency room, I cancelled the afternoon meeting as well.

I arrived home about 11:00 pm that night in a rental car after getting my son safely back to his home and feeling better.  I hadn’t spoken at the luncheon.  I hadn’t attended the meeting.  I didn’t know if my car could be fixed or if I would have to be shopping for another one.  That was a pretty stormy day for me.

But here I am enjoying a sunny day – physically and emotionally.  My son is fine.  I was able to reschedule the speaking engagement and the meeting.  I should have my car back next week.

Life goes on.  We may not know what each day will hold for us.  We cannot control all the events in life.  We can, however, control our response to the events.

Hang in there during the storm, learn from the experience, and then you can enjoy more sunny days.  This is how you live! . . . your life to the fullest.
